New Single (I Don't Wanna Hold Your Hand) 24/07/2020
Coastal Fire Dept. Won’t Hold Hands!
I Don't Wanna Hold Your Hand is best described as the Beatles meets grunge, this 2 minute song packs a serious punch with catchy lyrics aimed at getting in your head.
Challenged by the band to write a two minute grunge song Ollie wrote alt-rock/grunge inspired ‘I Don’t Wanna Hold Your Hand’ before social distancing became a thing. It is deliberately catchy and deliberately short on lyrical content!
Originally intended as a Nirvana rip off/ tribute song, it immediately sounded like another very inspirational alt-rock/grunge band. Coastal Fire Dept. embraced this sonically and took the song forward in their own way.
Written pre-Covid 19 and before social distancing was a thing, I Don’t Wanna Hold Your Hand has unconsciously become a song with Covid-19 references. The single was recorded and mixed in Guernsey but also saw them work with Fabian Tormin (Biffy Clyro, The Kills, Lee Ranald)
Sample Track - (You Are Stuck - Ken Andews Mix)
You Are Stuck was written with a positive message in mind and several musical influences to the fore. It was recorded at Apocalypse Studios, Guernsey with long time collaborator Mikey Ferbrache and mixed by Ken Andrews (Failure, Chris Cornell, Paramore, Stone Temple Pilots etc) at Red Swan Studios, Los Angeles.
Opening with a deep breath and a dawn chorus, You Are Stuck displays pop sensibilities then plunges into grunge/alt-rock twists and turns before venturing into a massive resonating outro heavily influenced by shoegaze and ending with a twist you didn’t see coming.
This is the first single taken from our forthcoming album Connected due for release in September 2020.
