Guernsey grunge outfit Coastal Fire Dept. goes low to claim the Unofficial World Record* while venting their rage on ‘Don’t Let The Fire Go Out’ whilst raising funds for charity.
This is their fourth and final single of the year, out 15 September on L’Islet Records. While writing new material, CFD focused on having a lean noisy attacking approach in every song. If a word, riff or section didn’t need to be there, it was gone.
With attention spans shrinking worldwide, the band wondered how short a single could realistically be. Then they remembered Napalm Death’s decades-long record holder ‘You Suffer’ (1.316 seconds) and an idea was born. Surely a single could go under one second? ‘Don’t Let The Fire Go Out’ clocks in at just under a second.
There is a chord change, there is a lyric and Ozzy is trying to squeeze every last drop out of the drums in that tiny window! It serves as a timely reminder to keep the passion burning for whatever gives you joy. The B-side is an extended version of the same track, stretching all the way to a luxurious 37 seconds. Every DJ should have room for either version.
Squeeze it in and turn it up. All proceeds raised will go to the Guernsey Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals in particular the rebuild and work they do rehabilitating young seals washed up across the Channel Islands.
